Get Immediate Results On Achieving Your Goals

We're already halfway through January of the new year. Did you know that you should already be seeing some significant progress on your achieving your goals? But what if you don't see any concrete evidence that you're getting closer to making your goals a reality? Don't worry! That's why I'm here! And there's still plenty of time to jump start your progress. So let's take a look at why you're not making progress yet on your goals.

Your goals are simply wishes

There's a fine line between goal setting and wishful thinking. Wishful thinking are goals that you set but just wait for them to happen on their own. Some believe that the law of attraction will make your goals happen. Meaning that since you know what you want, you will start attracting it into your life. But as the Bible says "Faith without works is dead" James 2:14-26. To turn your wishful thinking into goals, you MUST TAKE ACTION.

Do you remember when we went through the Guide to Achieving Your Goals - we reverse engineered your goals? This was where we picked your top 5 goals to achieve in 90 days and wrote out every single thing you could think of that would need done to achieve your goal. When you do this, you are writing your Action Plan. And to achieve your goals, you simple need to focus on accomplishing one item from your action plan at a time.

If you haven't created your action plan yet, do that today! Even if you only have time to do this for one of your goals, do not put it off. Do it right this second - stop reading, grab a pen and paper and do this for at least one of your goals. Why? Because the moment you do take this step, even if it's not done entirely, your subconscious will go to work immediately on trying to accomplish the steps in your action plan! How do I know? Because I was procrastinating doing this and as soon as I did, all the sudden I had major motivation to check these items off my list! And I've already made huge progress on several of my goals, even though we're only a few weeks in to the new year!

You haven't set a deadline

Remember that when you set your goals, you need to set a deadline that is realistic. Some of you may not have specified a date for when you want to achieve your goal but that is a mistake! If you were at work and were assigned to create a Powerpoint presentation but didn't have a deadline, would you work on it? Probably not! You'd push it back for more urgent or enjoyable tasks. The next thing you know, months have passed and you're still not done with that presentation! But what if you boss told you to create a Powerpoint presentation that you would be showcasing to the entire company in 4 weeks. Do you think you'd be working on it a little bit (or a lot) every single workday? You bet! Goals are the same! If you want to achieve your goal, set a deadline!

Your time frame is unrealistic

Another issue can be that when you set your deadline, you did it based on when you wish it would be accomplished rather than when you can realistically accomplish it. The way to set realistic goals is to assess what it will take to achieve it and consider how much time it will take to knock those tasks down. One way could be using your Action Plan (where we reverse engineered your goals) and noting how much time it will take to accomplish each task. That will give you a realistic view of when you can accomplish your goal.

One of my favorite tactics when it comes to financial goals (like paying off debt) is to use a spreadsheet to map out how many months of extra payments it will take me to pay off a loan. This is how my husband and I handled our debt. We had loans for our house, vehicles, student loans, credit card loans, 0% financing on furniture, and more. We listed out every single loan with every single regular payment necessary to pay each on off, then looked at what an extra $50 (or more) per month would impact our debt. We picked one loan and made that our first goal to accomplish using a realistic deadline. And do you know what? We hit our goal faster than expected every single time!
